Music on Lake
Erie
September 11-19, 1999 - Join us for a day, weekend or
week ...
For several years we have held an
informal campout/practice session at Kelleys Island State Park on Kelleys Island in
Western Lake Erie.
This year we have decided to invite musicians and afficionados of traditional Celtic and
American music to join us for two weekends, Sept. 11-12 and Sept. 18-19. At least some of
the band's current and past members will be present both weekends as well as other musical
friends. Weather permitting, Bea and Tom will be there during the week as well.
During this time of year Kelleys is beautiful, the Lake is still warm and the tourist
pressure has dropped off for the season. We will be prepared for swimming, sailing (at
least two sailboats will be there) and possibly water skiing along with cookouts and
music. We will also be up for sightseeing, sailing lessons and practically anything else
within our capabilities.
- How does it work?
- Well, we will be there. Bring your instruments,
voices and/or ears. Campsites are usually available on weekends after Labor day. If you
would like to have better chances, we hope to be there by Friday Sept. 10 and we can
rent a site for you - let us know and send $$$. The campsites do not have electricity
(nice - dark skies and stars at night), but there are bathroom facilities with hot
showers.
- I don't like camping, but would like to
attend. Where can I stay?
- There are many bed and breakfast businesses on
Kelleys. During the summer they are booked far in advance. I called the K.I. Chamber of
Commerce and was told that there should be rooms available after Labor Day. If you wish to
take this option, you should call the Chamber as soon as possible at (419) 746-2360. The
Chamer acts as a clearing house for acommodations on the island and are very
helpful. If you would like to check out the B&B's, visit the Kelleys Island web site
at http://www.kelleysisland.com where there are
descriptions and photos of many of the K.I. B&B's.
- How do I get there?
- By Boat: If you have a boat on Lake
Erie you probably already know. The State Park is on the North Bay, the most popular
anchorage on the island if not the whole Western Basin.
By Automobile: There are two ferry lines that service Kelleys for auto
traffic, Neuman's and Kelleys Island Ferry (no
web site - (888) 225-4325). They are both based on Marblehead Penninsula. For either, exit
Route 2 on State Route 269. Travel North to State Route 163. Turn right on S.R. 163 and
follow the signs to Marblehead.
- Yes! I would like to attend!
- If you would like to join us, please E-mail Tom deLombarde or Bea Randall and let us know
when you will be coming and any special acommodation requirements you might have. Or just
show up - but it would be nice to know how many to expect.
- Disclaimers:
- Aren't there always these? Weather is unpredictable
this time of year. We can not be held responsible. There are covered picnic shelters in
the park for rainy congregations. You are responsible for your own food, lodging and
transportation. We will be eager to do what we can to facilitate (pinning down campsites,
organizing pot-lucks, etc.). We look forward to much fun!
